Kong Aqua Dog Toy Review
What dog doesn’t like to play? All of them do. One company has really figured out how to build toys that can hold up to even the most aggressive play of both big and small dogs. KONG!
Just as the name implies, these toys are tough. We have a big tough brindle Pitbull mixed breed that can chew through almost anything. As hard as he may try, he can’t destroy a Kong Aqua Dog Toy. The rubber material the toys are made of is not only tough but designed with a shape that bounces in irregular directions which he loves as it increases the “chase”.
Right out of the container, this toy is a hit. No one can resist seeing their dog fully enjoying himself with a new toy. This toy did not fail to bring pleasure to the dog and the owner.
The fact that this Kong floats adds yet another dimension to the toys. For those dogs that can’t get enough water play, this is a great toy. The rope handle also makes throwing it easier and you can get more distance with each throw. The rope has benefits but also has a few drawbacks.
When a dog comes out of the water with the toy, the first thing they usually do is shake off the water. When they do this with the toy in mouth, the rope often slaps them around the head. Sometimes if they are close to you, it can hit the owner as well. This happened to my 2-year-old granddaughter when she ran up to the dog to retrieve the toy. As on many beaches covered in sand, the sand becomes imbedded in the rope and doesn’t wash out well. The last problem with the rope is it is the most vulnerable part of the toy. Within the first day, the dog had frayed the rope so we knew it wouldn’t last long.
After a few days of play, our dog did manage to chew the rope most of the way off. We had to cut it off so he wouldn’t eat the rest of the rope. This was probably a good thing in the end because he no longer slapped himself or us with it. If the company found a way to utilize a rope/cord made of the same material as the toy, it would solve at least a couple of the issues we found.
I would rate the toy itself at about 8 out of 10. The 2 point markdown is primarily due to the defects of the rope.
For value, I would rate it at a 9 out of 10. The toys are virtually indestructible so they last forever…except for the rope.
The cost of the toy is similar to competitors so I would rate cost at a 7 out of 10 because there are other toys a bit lower in price.
