Designed for rafting, canyoneering and cycling, the AquaKnot 1800 handles the elements. I set out for some casual wear-and-tear as well as some rough-and-tumble beating. I wanted to test the pack in the worst conditions; full submersion, beating on the rocks and a downpour. The pack definitely holds up and keeps dry in the rain and splashing of paddles. Made of a vinyl urethane, the pack holds out water and the shoulder straps dry within an hour or so with average temps.
The pack is comfortable for a casual hike or having to go around town, the waist straps are not padded, so I would not recommend it for anything over 2 miles. The top closes like your typical dry bag, but also offers lower side straps to buckle the top closed via the sides of the pack. One aspect I was not pleased with was the roll-over closer during a full submersion (canyoneering), water rushed in and soaked most of the items inside. The roll-over closure was closed properly, rolled over three times, however once weight was applied to the pack while underwater (i.e. canyoneering) it forced air out of the corner of the rolls and allowed water in. Coming in at 2.6 lbs and standing 23” tall, the Aquaknot 1800 can hold a whopping 29.5L worth of gear. Its external pockets are mesh and can hold a small water bottle or something of that sort.
Overall, the pack handled well and would serve great on kayaking, paddle board trips or short outings, and was pleased with everything over all. I would not consider this pack for extreme conditions or long expedition style trips, but I would purchase this product for limited uses such as kayaking, long boat trips or paddle boarding.
