Aku’s hiking boots are designed for on- and off- trail day hiking, so I took the Transalpina GTX W’s for a series of hikes in the local hills.
The boot offers superior stability and a large cushioned sole provides all day comfort. Furthermore, the rubber on the bottom grips even the slickest rock offering stability on sketchy terrain.
The LOWA Focus GTX features leather uppers, with a Gore-Tex lining and rubber (but not Vibram) soles. They are sturdy, they are waterproof, and they are German engineered. Unfortunately, they are not quite what I was looking for.
I thrashed these boots in some very rugged conditions and they have not softened up at all. Even after months of hard use, the boots still look brand new and feel as good as the day I got them.
One of the benefits of the Trail Crampon Pros over the Hillsound’s stretch Trail Crampons is the Anti-snow or anti-balling plates. You probably remember as a kid having your snowboots fill up with snow and making them no better than the slippery sled you were dragging uphill.
