The ridge includes several “poet” peaks including Irving, Longfellow, and Bryant. With its soaring view and relatively easy access, Poe is most popular. Two different trails lead to Poe.

Named after the infamously fearless logger Harry Gault, the trail follows an old logging road, leading to the famous balcony and eventually the mountain peak. Dirty Harry’s Peak is an excellent choice for spring hiking. Located to the east of Mailbox Peak, this 4,700-foot mountain offers a delightful balance of bare trail and snow.
While campers can pitch their tent in the campsite, hot pool hikers can continue on, following the signs to the hot springs. This trail twists upward through an old growth forest, offering a steep but scenic hike to the springs. Impatient hikers must follow the trail over a slight ridge before they can finally glimpse their reward—a small plateau overlooking a dramatic waterfall and a hot springs complex.
Enjoy the progression from dark thickets of evergreen trees to flowering alpine meadows to granite cliffs as you climb up to the mountain’s highest peaks. A rickety fire lookout stands aloft at the very top of Granite Mountain, offering spectacular 360 degree views on a clear day.
Dwarfed by the lofty peaks of Mount Si, Little Si is generally passed over for its bigger brother. But those who choose to drive past the trailhead at 55 miles per hour are missing out on a one-of-a-kind hiking experience (and speeding).
