Mt Rainier Climb for Fresh Air

Mt Rainier Climb for Fresh Air

Every year, the American Lung Association organizes a Climb for Clean Air event to raise funds to help with awareness about air quality. This year, Rakesh Malik was part of such a climb. Between ALA training, fundraising, and long nights filled with climbing he managed to capture some of the amazing sights he saw.

My First Trip to Camp Muir: A Florida Boy Finds His Love for the Mountains

View from Above – Camp Muir

On a clear day the hike up the snowfield from Paradise to Camp Muir is rewarded with one of the most spectacular views around. Standing on the shoulder of one volcano, you are surrounded by several others and a view that extends into infinity. Erik Turner was up there on one such day and shares these photos with us.

Spray Park Trail

Spray Park Trail

Spray Falls is the pinnacle of many hikers’ visit to the Park, offering up-close-and-personal views of a gorgeous waterfall towering 80 feet in height and 50 feet in width. Because the trail to the falls itself is only .25 miles, it is well worth the side trip.

Skyline Trail Mt Rainier

Skyline Trail Mt Rainier

Luckily, Skyline Trail is also well marked for the length of the trail. The loop immediately heads in 2 directions from the parking lot, so hikers have the option of heading North and slightly West and passing Alta Vista first, or heading Northeast towards Myrtle falls. I prefer to head to the Northwest, which allows hikers to visit Panorama Point, and still have the option of turning back at Golden Gate Trail if they’d like to shorten their hiking distance.

Other early blooming flowers, such as marsh marigold, rocket-shaped Jeffrey’s shooting stars, scarlet paintbrush, and lupine, in shades of blue and purple, soon follow. By the time the wildflower bloom is at its showy best, the varieties are seemingly endless.

Fremont Lookout, Mt Rainier

Fremont Lookout, Mt Rainier

The historic lookout is a few steps above the rocky nose of the ridge. You’ll want to check it out, but the views are about as good from ground level. Look at Mt. Rainier. Look at the dramatic, treeless rolls of the three Burroughs. Look at the golf-course flat, inviting green expanse of Grand Park. Daydream about an overnight deeper into the Park.

Hiking Mt Rainier – Seasons

As an avid explorer and photographer of the volcanoes of the Cascade Mountain Range, I’ve found that what really amazes me about them is how different they can be at different times of year. Especially Mount Rainier
