I’ve been using the Lakota 65 to haul my climbing gear and have caught myself marveling at how I ever managed without features like easy side access and the built-in rain cover. Not having to pack around a black garbage bag to throw over my pack just incase it rains, which here in the Pacific Northwest is more likely than not, of course has its perks but it is the bag’s overall comfort and efficient design that impressed me most.
I crammed the Montane Grand Tour 55 full of ropes, serrated shovels, crampons and ice axes on a recent mountain rescue training operation. The pack was heavily abused while fully loaded as I slid it along ice and snow and dragged it through thick brush. It still looks brand new!
The Hydrapak Jolla’s lightweight frame, ventilated construction, and great hydration system, make it a great bag for bikers and day hikers. Its temperature-controlled body can resist cold, rain, and humid conditions, and its flexible body allows for a ton of gear. It can double as a gym bag or a work bag and then quickly covert to a great pack for weekend adventures.
Looking for an affordable pack to take from the trail to the airport? Outdoor Products Gama 40L pack is great at that! The Gama 40L pack is different from packs I’ve tried in this category before.
I was really excited to give this pack a try and have it replace my 80L bag as my week long bag as I continuously try and reduce weight: “Durable fabrics, 60L size, 1.45 pounds, etc”. These were all things that were right in line with what I was looking for in a week to week pack.
The Gossamer Gorilla is a great pack for those looking to cut weight wherever they can. As I get older (and maybe a little wiser) this pack caused a revolution in my thinking about backpacking. No longer am I content to carry a 45 pound pack on a one or two night trip.
