Goat Rocks Wilderness – Summer Planning
Last July, I was entranced by the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Located in the southern Cascades of Washington State, between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams, the Goat Rocks boasts post-card views of both peaks and yes, more than a few wildflowers!
Horseshoe Basin, North Cascades National Park
The basin was aglow in the afternoon light, orange granite spires surrounding the lip like fangs, too-numerous-to-count waterfalls glistening, their sparkling waters plunging down into the valley. There were wildflowers popping out everywhere, yellows and purples, reds and blues, all accenting the deep green of the basin floor.
Splendor in September – Late Summer and Early Fall Wildflowers
Other flowers we’ve spotted thus far (Mid-August through early September) on the Naches Loop trail and near Summerland include Western Pasque flower, an unusual flower, sort of like a cat with nine lives.
